NAWBO
The National Association of Women Business Owners is an organization designed to support the entrepeneurial efforts of its members and to analyze and influence economic and public policy at the local and national level to benefit business owners. Unlike many networking-only organizations, NAWBO's focus is on business development, enhancement and promotion for the 6.2 million women-owned businesses in the US. Stoll Keenon Ogden believes in the mission of this organization because successful business owners are a vital part of the economic engine driving the country.
Two of NAWBO's past presidents have been members of the firm, and SKO attorney Eileen O'Brien continues to serve on the Board. Ms. O'Brien was honored as the national organizations 2004 "Unsung Hero" and as the local chapter's Public Policy Advocate (2004) and Woman of Achievement (2001). In keeping with its mission, NAWBO will host Lexington's Mayor Jim Gray at its May meeting to discuss his first 100 days in office and the "Businessman's Budget" he recently proposed.
Japan/America Society of Kentucky (JASK)
Stoll Keenon Ogden is a strong and dedicated corporate member of the Japan America Society of Kentucky, which promotes friendship and business among Japanese and American companies in the region. SKO has had the honor of sponsoring numerous JASK events including the recent opening of their new office in Frankfort, KY. Involvement with JASK is one of our firm's ongoing commitments to the success and growth of Japanese-owned businesses in the region. In fact, we have represented Japanese companies in a wide range of matters including business transactions, tax, labor and employment, real estate, licensing and immigration.
Kentucky Chamber of Commerce
The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce strives to provide leadership as a catalyst, consensus builder and advocate uniting businesses and advancing the growth and well-being of the state of Kentucky. Bill Lear, SKO Managing Director, currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. The firm is pleased to be actively involved in programs sponsored by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, such as Chamber Day and the Best Places to Work award.
Commerce Lexington (CLX)
Stoll Keenon Ogden’s relationship with Commerce Lexington (CLX) and its predecessor organizations dates back several decades. SKO works in conjunction with Commerce Lexington to fulfill the organization’s mission and vision in the areas of economic development, minority business development, workforce development, education/leadership development, small business support, and public policy. The firm has sponsored many CLX events, including the annual leadership visit, the annual dinner and the Lexington Venture Club. SKO is recognized as a Diamond Investor, the highest level of support, for its financial contributions to CLX.
SKO attorneys have always been engaged members of Commerce Lexington. SKO Managing Director Bill Lear is the only person to have served as Chairman of all three of the organizations that merged to form Commerce Lexington in 2002 (the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Lexington United and Lexington Partnership for Work Force Development) and has also served as General Counsel and Vice Chair for Economic Development for Commerce Lexington. SKO attorney, David Smith, currently serves on the CLX Board of Directors.
Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF)
Given its signature practices in energy and mineral law, the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF) is a natural strategic alliance for SKO. EMLF is the leading educational organization for professionals in the energy and mineral law sectors in the Midwest and Southeast. In addition to the numerous attorneys who regularly lecture at EMLF educational programs, Kendrick Riggs and John Henderson currently serve as Trustees on the EMLF Board.
Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI)
A Top Investor and long-time supporter of Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI), Stoll Keenon Ogden has sponsored its signature business program, Business at Breakfast, for more than a decade. The Business at Breakfast program begins with networking prior to breakfast, and a panel or speaker on a popular topic. GLI serves as the Chamber of Commerce for the Louisville metropolitan and southern Indiana area, with a goal of representing the business community and promoting economic development. Currently, SKO attorney Kendrick Riggs serves on GLI’s Board of Directors.
Henderson Chamber of Commerce
Stoll Keenon Ogden is actively involved with the Henderson-Henderson County Chamber of Commerce. SKO attorney K.T. Williams served on the Chamber’s Board of Directors and was the Chairperson of the Chamber’s Education Committee. The Henderson Chamber’s focus on advocacy, education and business development fits well with the firm’s commitment to the betterment of the communities it serves.
Leadership Louisville Center
The Leadership Louisville Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing a diverse group of leaders who serve as promoters of a stronger community. Stoll Keenon Ogden is associated with the Center through longstanding involvement and support of its efforts. Many firm attorneys have participated in the Center’s leadership programs, including Leadership Louisville, Ignite Louisville, Bingham Fellows and Focus Louisville. Firm attorneys also serve in leadership roles within Leadership Louisville. SKO attorney Tom Williams has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Center and was recognized as a Connector, one of the diverse individuals recognized by the Center for getting things done and having a “trusted style of leadership”.
In addition to attorneys being actively involved in the Leadership Louisville Center, the firm also sponsors the annual Mayor’s Leadership Luncheon VIP reception. Past guests have included former Mayor Jerry Abramson amd Lexington Mayor Jim Gray.
Leadership Kentucky
Leadership Kentucky, created in 1984 as a non-profit educational organization, brings together a selected group of people that possess a broad variety of leadership abilities, career accomplishments, and volunteer activities to gain insight into complex issues facing the state. Our goal is to prepare our participants to take an active role in advancing the state for the common good. By fostering understanding of how the state's issues are interconnected, and by forging new relationships among community and regional leaders, Leadership Kentucky graduates bring a fresh and informed perspective to their communities and companies, serving as important participants in the unified effort to shape Kentucky's future.
