John E. Evans
John is Of Counsel in Stoll Keenon Ogden's Louisville office and has been with the firm since 2001. He is a member of the Trusts, Estates & Family Law and Tax Practices. He is also a member of the Business Litigation and Construction Law practices. Currently, his practice focuses primarily on trust and estate litigation and administration, and federal and state tax dispute resolution and litigation.
John is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and his experience as a practicing attorney spans forty years. He has represented many large and small businesses and many people in diverse business, tax, estate, and personal matters, involving numerous areas of the law, and has prepared and argued many cases in numerous trial and appellate courts. He also litigated a large number of federal tax matters for four years as a Trial Attorney and Supervisor with the U.S. Department of Justice, and taught law in several subject areas for three years at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
John also has served his community, and our Country, in several ways. He is a former U.S. Naval Officer, and was deployed six times. He has served as mayor, councilman and city attorney of his home town for a total of twenty years. He served as alumni advisor to the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at the University of Louisville, and was president of its housing corporation while the construction of a new fraternity house at U. of L. was undertaken and completed by the Fraternity's alumni. He is active with the Rotary Club of Louisville. He is married and has two sons and two granddaughters. He enjoys playing his piano, growing roses and giving them away, and canoeing on rivers in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.
