Andrew joined Stoll Keenon Ogden’s Lexington office in 2017 after completing law school. He lends his expertise to businesses and individuals through several practice groups at the firm.
A resident of Central Kentucky for most of his life, Andrew has a passion for the equine industry that is part of the heritage of the Commonwealth and SKO. Whether he is working with racehorse owners or institutional clients, he is dedicated to serving their unique challenges.
Andrew earned his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. During his time in law school, he received a CALI Award® for excellence demonstrated in several categories of legal study. He was also elected to the Order of the Coif.
Business Services: Andrew consults with clients on business formation and assists businesses in complying with applicable law, with a particular emphasis on legal issues related to equine, tax, securities, and state and federal alcohol beverage laws.
Equine Litigation: When actions are taken against Thoroughbred owners or other horse-racing entities, Andrew draws on his detailed familiarity with equine laws to guide clients toward a satisfactory outcome. He helps clients avoid conflicts by keeping them informed of regulatory developments.
Equine Transactional: Andrew assists clients with a wide range of transactional needs, including horse purchase and sale contracts, stallion syndications, and racing syndications. He advises clients on the structuring of business operations for the purpose of minimizing taxes, including income, sales, and use and transfer taxes, as well as VAT and GST.
Privacy Law: Andrew holds a CIPP/US certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He works closely with businesses to draft policies and implement programs designed to comply with various state, federal and international laws, such as the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA), U.S. HIPAA Privacy Rule and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Securities & Corporate Governance: For startups, Andrew provides representation from formation through initial capital raises. For equine owners and other clients, he assists with services ranging from preparation and negotiation of agreements involving limited liability companies, and buy-sell transactions, to compliance with state and federal securities laws.
Tax: Andrew advises businesses and individuals on all aspects of state and local taxation, including tax planning, audits, administrative hearings and trials.
Trusts & Estates: Dedicated to adding value to clients’ businesses and lives, Andrew provides estate, tax and business planning services. Should disputes arise, he works to resolve conflicts as efficiently as possible.
Alcohol & Hospitality: Andrew regularly applies for all types of alcoholic beverage licenses and assists clients in a wide range of day-to-day operational and compliance issues.
