Donald J. Smith

Don joined SKO in 2022, as part of the firm’s merger with Katz, Korin Cunningham, where he had been practicing since 2016 out of both our downtown Indianapolis and Broad Ripple offices. A Member with close to 20 years legal experience, Don is part of several practice groups, including Real Estate, Banking, Business Services, Trusts & Estates and Arbitration & Mediation. In addition to working from the Downtown Indy SKO office, Don often meets with clients at our Broad Ripple office — 317.472.0448.

Real Estate: Don represents both local and national real estate clients in all aspects of real estate development, handling projects from “dirt to disposition.” He has also represented both tenants and landlords in commercial leasing transactions and litigation. Don has extensive experience representing his real estate clients throughout Indiana on zoning, planning and land use matters.

Banking: Acting as a guide for his many banking clients, Don and his team represent lending institutions of all sizes on the legal technicalities surrounding commercial lending, real estate acquisition lending, construction loan financing and more.

Business Services: Don acts as outside general counsel for many of his small business entrepreneurial clients, advising them on all legal aspects of their businesses, including formation, governance, and succession planning.  Don also represents local and national clients in transactions of all sizes, including mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations.

Trusts & Estates: Don helps his clients to navigate the complicated and emotional process of protecting their assets for future generations, including the preparation of wills, trusts and advanced planning documents.  Don also represents estates in probate administration.

Arbitration & Mediation: Don is an Indiana-certified mediator. Based on his extensive real estate and business background, he brings a unique perspective to resolving commercial disputes.
