Whether we’re hosting the mayor pitching his local sales tax initiative, organizers of giant steamboat festivals, or pioneers in the Portland Renaissance, we try to keep Insiders Meetups topical.

The topic for Monday’s event will be torn from today’s headlines, as they used to say, as more and more big retailers such as Target and Neiman Marcus, national hotel chains, universities and even governments are reporting data breaches.

Last month, SKO and the International Association of Privacy Professionals put on an event about data protection. SKO has worked on data and privacy matters for years, but demand has grown to the point their attorneys have become Certified Information Privacy Professionals.Louisville-based law firm Stoll Keenon Ogden has created a new Privacy and Information Security practice group addressing cyber security issues from all angles – legal, regulatory and business.

If you own a credit card, much less a business, you’ll want to be at Vincenzo’s Monday to meet these professionals.Monday, SKO attorneys Doug Brent, Dana Howard and Doug Barr will present “the Current Information Security Crisis.” Brent & Co. will discuss current developments related to information and data privacy, cyber security and related legislation.

Speaking of Vincenzo’s, Monday will be the final Insiders Meetup there for a little while. For March, we’re moving to Z’s Oyster Bar and Steakhouse.

Our first guest at Z’s will be Jonathan Blue on Monday, March 3. Jonathan will talk about the Kentucky Wins! effort to get expanded gaming on the ballot in Kentucky … and possibly a casino downtown. We want to thank Vincenzo and Agostino Gabriele for being the best hosts ever, along with our friend Jonathan Tarullo.

Other guests in March will include Carlos Phillips, a former Greater Louisville Inc. executive who’s now a VP with the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

And now you know our secret agenda: Grab a cocktail, meet other Insiders and have fun.

The next Insiders Meetup is at Vincenzo’s, 150 S. 5th St. in downtown Louisville, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., though insiders rarely file out before 7. Vincenzo’s offers free valet parking (beginning at 5 p.m.) and drink and bar-menu specials. And let’s not forget Chef Agostino’s yummy appetizers!

Insiders Meetups are free and open to the first 50 Insiders who register here at Eventbrite.
