We wanted to alert you to immigration changes that impact you and your families.
ALIEN REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT
All foreign nationals (Nonimmigrants and Lawful Permanent Residents) who are 14 years of age or older are now required to be registered if they will be in the U.S. for 30 days or longer. Parents and legal guardians are responsible for registering their children who are under the age of 14. When a child turns 14 years of age, the child must apply for re-registration within 30 days of their 14th birthday.
Information about who is required to register and how to complete the registration can be found here.
REQUIREMENT TO CARRY IMMIGRATION REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS
In addition to the Alien Registration Requirement, all foreign nationals (Nonimmigrants and Lawful Permanent Residents) who are 18 years of age and older are required to carry their immigration registration documents.
If you are a Lawful Permanent Resident, this is your I-551, Permanent Resident Card.
If you are a Nonimmigrant (E-2, E-3, F-1/F-2, H-1B/H-4, L-1/L-2, J-1/J-2, O-1/O-3, TN/TD), you and your dependents will have one of the following documents:
- Printed copy of I-94, Arrival-Departure Record even if expired – Make sure you and your family are always checking the I-94 website when you enter the U.S. and print your most recent I-94s.
- Valid I-766, Employment Authorization Document
- I-797 Receipt Notice for I-485, Adjustment of Status Application if fingerprints were provided
- USCIS Proof of Alien G-325R Registration, or its successor form – if available
CHANGE OF ADDRESS REQUREMENT
Finally, please remember to update your address with USCIS when you and your family move to a new home address. US Immigration requires that you and each dependent moving with you report your address within 10 days of your move.
You can report your address online through the USCIS Online Account, or by filing a Paper Form AR-11. Note: this is a separate request from submitting a Change of Address Form with the U.S. Postal Service. Information about these options can be found here. USCIS also provides a YouTube video on how to change your address through the USCIS Online Account.
FAILURE TO COMPLY
Failure to complete the registration, carry documents, or change address may result in a fine or imprisonment.
